Who Are Radiologic Technologists?

Radiologic technologists are the health care professionals who perform medical imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. They're educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, physics, radiation protection and basic patient care.

What Do They Do?

Radiologic technologists operate the medical imaging equipment and perform the exams. They’re responsible for accurately positioning patients and ensuring that a quality medical image is produced.

Radiation therapists administer targeted doses of radiation to patients to treat and control diseases such as cancer. They’re educated in physics, radiation safety, patient anatomy and patient care.

The first x-ray image was taken by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen in 1895. Every November, ASRT celebrates National Radiologic Technology Week® to honor Roentgen and his discovery.
