Annual Meeting Update from Chairman of the Board

Apr 30, 2020

Dear ASRT Members,

With an extended stay-at-home order directed by the governor of New Mexico and large gatherings banned by the New Mexico Department of Health, the Board of Directors of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting, June 24-28, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This was not an easy decision for the Board. The annual governance meeting is incredibly important as it provides the governance structure for delegates to make decisions that affect the profession and the Society. In addition, the Educational Symposium is the premier continuing education event for radiologic technologists. The Board exhaustively investigated options to host the meeting; however, with ongoing obstacles to travel, lodging limitations, social distancing directives and our desire to keep attendees and staff safe, an in-person meeting is not possible this year.

Please note that the Board is investigating the feasibility of a virtual House of Delegates meeting that would allow delegates to complete essential business. The Board will notify the membership when it has more details.

We are very disheartened that we won’t be able to celebrate the ASRT Centennial together this year. We have been diligently planning for the party at the ASRT office to commemorate the Society’s 100-year anniversary, so to have it canceled is extremely disappointing. However, as we know the Centennial is important to the entire radiologic technology community, we plan on celebrating it at the ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting, June 17-20, 2021, in Reno, Nevada.

Individuals who have already registered for the 2020 annual meeting will automatically receive a refund within 30 days. Individuals who registered for the meeting’s ASRT Foundation fundraising event have the option to donate their registration fee to the Foundation. The Foundation will contact registrants directly.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. As I am sure we are all disappointed, unprecedented times require difficult decisions. We want to assure you that all decisions are being made with your safety and well-being in mind. Thank you for all you do for our Society, our profession and our patients.

Sincerely,
Melissa B. Jackowski, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(M), FASRT
ASRT Chairman of the Board
