Former ASRT President Selected for Executive Staff Leadership Role

Former ASRT president, Melissa Pergola, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(M), FASRT, previously Melissa Jackowski, has been selected to become executive vice president of governance and public policy for the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, the professional association that represents more than 156,000 medical imaging and radiation therapy practitioners.

Dr. Pergola brings more than 30 years of experience as a radiologic technologist and an educator working in hospital, corporate and university settings. She has spent the past six years at Siemens Healthineers working for both the business and human resources divisions driving its people and leadership initiatives. Before her career at Siemens, she was a clinical assistant professor at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She holds a doctorate in health professions education and a master of science degree from North Carolina State University and a bachelor’s degree in radiologic science from UNC-Chapel Hill.

“I’m humbled and excited to take on this role at ASRT,” said Dr. Pergola. “I’ve always been passionate about our profession, and public policy advocacy is an important avenue to move the needle on patient safety and other critical issues in health care. I look forward to working with our members across the country and supporting our important profession through legislative and regulatory actions.”

Dr. Pergola spent five years on the ASRT Board of Directors, completing her term as chair of the Board in 2020. She has 15 years of volunteer experience with ASRT and more than 10 years of lobbying experience at the state and national levels championing a variety of health care issues. Her passion, leadership skills and extensive knowledge of ASRT’s mission, its members and the profession make Dr. Pergola a true asset to ASRT.

She will join the ASRT staff on Tuesday, July 13.
