The American Society of Radiologic Technologists will award Life Member status to five members during the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting in Reno, Nevada, on June 23.
The Society's newest Life Members are Sal Martino, Ed.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, FASAE, CAE; Larry “Max” D. Maxwell, B.S., R.T.(R)(CT), FASRT; Gregory Morrison, M.A., R.T.(R), CNMT, CAE; Jan Sisler, R.T.(R)(M), FASRT; and Beth Weber, M.P.H., R.T.(R), RDMS, CRA, FASRT.
Life Member Award
Established in 1938, Life Members are active ASRT members who have maintained continuous membership for at least 30 years and have participated in a wide range of volunteer activities that demonstrate dedication to the ASRT and the radiologic technology profession. Candidates who receive the honor are selected by at least a three-quarters vote of the ASRT Board of Directors.
Life Member
Sal Martino, Ed.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, FASAE, CAE, served as ASRT CEO and executive director for more than 13 years. Dr. Martino joined ASRT in 1999 following a 20-year career in academia at The City University of New York. Originally from Brooklyn, Martino earned a doctorate from Columbia University, was named a Fellow of the ASRT and American Society of Association Executives and served as the chair of the ASAE Board of Directors. In addition, he served as CEO of the ASRT Foundation and was on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Board of Trustees. A published author and researcher, he has also lectured extensively in the U.S. and abroad.
Larry “Max” D. Maxwell, B.S., R.T.(R)(CT), FASRT, has volunteered for several ASRT positions since he joined the association in 1989. He has served as Computed Tomography Chapter chair and delegate, Practice Standards Council Computed Tomography Subcommittee delegate and Pennsylvania affiliate delegate for the ASRT House of Delegates. His current role is treasurer for the Pennsylvania Society of Radiologic Technologists. In addition, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Board of Trustees appointed him to serve as a member of the Radiography Examination Committee and the Computed Tomography Practice Analysis Committee. In 2013, he was elevated to ASRT Fellow. Maxwell is a computed tomography technologist at Shadyside Hospital/Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh, where he has worked since 1974.
Gregory Morrison, M.A., R.T.(R), CNMT, CAE, spent 10 years of his early career in nuclear medicine, computed tomography, magnetic resonance and sonography at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota. He then came to ASRT in 1993 as director of continuing education and was promoted to chief operating officer, associate executive director and, finally, deputy chief executive officer before retiring in January 2022. While at ASRT, Morrison was instrumental in the creation of the ASRT Museum and Archives, where he served as its executive director. Morrison was ASRT’s representative on the Image Gently Alliance from its start in 2007 and was honored by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for his work on the project. He regularly served in volunteer roles for a variety of professional associations including the American Society of Association Executives, American Alliance of Museums, the North Dakota Society of Radiologic Technologists, the American College of Radiology and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, among others. Morrison is a life member and Lester Shook honorary lecturer with the NDSRT and trustee emeritus for The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History.
Jan Sisler, R.T.(R)(M), FASRT, became a registered radiologic technologist in 1973. Sisler worked for nearly 20 years as a radiographer in Washington state. She became a registered mammographer in 1992 and the sole proprietor of Radiology and Mammography Relief Service. Sisler held positions on the ASRT Board of Directors in many positions, including secretary-treasurer, vice president, president-elect, president and chair of the Board. In 1994, she was elevated to ASRT Fellow. She also served on the ASRT Foundation Board of Trustees. Sisler has made significant contributions to the Washington Society of Radiologic Technologists, serving as its president and chair of the board in 1985. She was honored with WSRT life membership status in 1992. Sisler also worked as marketing and clinical resources manager for 10 years at Mammography Reporting System Inc. in Washington, where she performed company product demonstrations across the U.S. and worked with facilities to increase production and efficiency.
Beth Weber, M.P.H., R.T.(R), RDMS, CRA, FASRT, served on the ASRT Board of Directors as vice speaker of the House for two terms, from 2015-2017, and as speaker of the House for two terms, from 2017-2019. She also has represented the Sonography and Management chapters as a member of the ASRT House of Delegates. She was elevated to ASRT Fellow in 2010. A life member of the South Dakota Society of Radiologic Technologists, she joined the SDSRT in 1975 and served on its board of directors in several roles. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. Weber is currently serving on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Board of Trustees as secretary-treasurer. She works as a registered sonographer, director of imaging services and privacy officer at the Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls. In addition, she served as a volunteer for the American Heart Association and United Way for more than 20 years.
